Production Spotlight: A Magical Night with KIPP

Education is always worth celebrating, especially when it comes to student advocacy and well-being. The Knowledge Is Power Program (KIPP) is dedicated to providing quality education to K-12 students in low-income communities across the United States. KIPP schools aim to level the playing field and create equal opportunities for all students, regardless of their background or socioeconomic status.

With campus locations in Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio and a focus on teaching through social-emotional learning, KIPP is Texas’ strongest network of free open-enrollment college-preparatory schools.

Professionally acclaimed, nationwide AV company, the Events Co., based in Houston, TX, was contacted by KIPP organizers to provide an audio system for their live production event that would amplify the spoken word and mainstage band performances.

K-array’s portable Pinnacle-KR804 II System is used in a left/right configuration with three Kayman-KY102 loudspeakers, one Thunder-KS4 I, and one Thunder-KS4P I subwoofer per side.

Throwback Installation: St. Patrick's Cathedral

St. Patrick's Cathedral, located in midtown Manhattan, has been an iconic national landmark for more than 130 years and is one of the most visited churches in the US. In 2015, the historic location began a massive, multi-year renovation that included extensive interior and exterior structural restorations while the audio system was in need of an overhaul as well.

The church required a system with a minimal visual profile and high intelligibility in a very reverberant environment. Ben Bausher, Senior Consultant at Jaffe Holden, was brought in for system design specification and immediately selected K-array.

54 x Kobra-KK102 line array elements in white were installed throughout the cathedral powered by 31 x Kommander Class D power amplifiers. The loudspeakers amplify the spoken voice and the occasional musical accompaniment that originates from the altar.
