Peabody Essex Museum
The Peabody Essex Museum (PEM) is one of the oldest continuously operating museums in the United States, boasting a remarkable collection of approximately 1.3 million artworks and artifacts. Its extensive holdings include works of historical and cultural significance, spanning diverse categories such as maritime, American, Asian, Oceanic, and African art.
K-array was deemed a perfect fit to provide a discreet system for “On This Ground: Being and Belonging in America”, a long-term exhibit bringing together two extraordinary collections of Native American and American art for the first time in the institution's history.
Throughout the exhibit, Audio production company, WurliSound, installed, Vyper-KV25 loudspeakers and Truffle subwoofers are strategically placed to ensure visitors will be covered by crisp amplification of the spoken word that comes from display podiums describing an intricate stage of history.
One of the exhibit's most extraordinary features transports visitors to the dining room of the oceangoing yacht, Cleopatria's Barge. Hidden within the room, an Azimut-KAMUT2L1 with KZ1 speakers amplifies the voices of mysterious travelers as they gather for breakfast aboard the ship while Tornado-KT2 and KT2C point source speakers discreetly installed in the ceiling fill the air with the sound of seagulls and crashing ocean waves, immersing visitors in an audio journey that transports them back in time.
